Where in the world am I? (hint: it’s not Vancouver)
I’ve had a roller coaster of a ride today meeting lots of new people and walking all around this big city. It’s such a huge place that I doubt it’s possible to see everything! According to the locals, it’s a pointless to try because the entire city is constantly changing. And for the record, all of the people I’ve met today have broken the stereotypes of this popular destination by being really friendly and helpful. Guess where I am?

You don’t wanna mess with me when I’m packing
I’m back from Vegas! I picked up Bee at around 3:30am on Saturday morning and we caught the first flight out of Bellingham to Vegas to meet Lisa and her sisters for her first stagette (she has two of everything for this wedding — lucky bride!). We arrived home late last night, but not before making a few new friends (it’s crazy how many stags and stagettes take place each weekend in Vegas) and shooting some guns. Turns out, I’m a decent shooter! Heh heh.
Sidenote: Poor Bee got hit on the forehead with one of the bullet casings and ended up with a painful cut

Do I really need a caption for this? I think not.
I was thinking it was time to post another random photo from my travels, so I randomly clicked around in my ‘Bloggable’ folder and found this Irish diving goat.
This goat lives at Silky O’Sullivan’s restaurant patio in Memphis TN. Why? It’s just one of life’s many great mysteries.
PS In case you’re wondering whether they have goat on the menu, they don’t (I checked).

I already love getting mail, but there’s something especially wonderful about getting an unexpected random card from one of your closest friends. Yesterday I received what is arguably the strangest card (the front is a picture of a mountain with the tip of a tree in the foreground) with a message that made me grin ear to ear. It reads “Anny Chih! I think you’re… AWESOME That is all. <3 Lisa.” LOL I think you’re pretty darn awesome too Lisa! <3

Brendan doing a pretty impressive rap on stage at Make Web Not War
Microsoft’s Make Web Not War conference took place yesterday at the very cool Masik art gallery on 2nd Ave. I got to see some of the guys one more time before they jumped aboard their flights back home, including Nasty Bear Brendan who was harping about how there were no pictures of him in the Speakers Dinner set. Dirty P, this one’s for you.
More pictures from Make Web Not War on my Flickr page.

In the octagon with Adam. He’s a blue belt. I don’t have a belt.
I still had a bit of rage left over from a particularly bad evening last month, so Lisa suggested we go to Dynamic Mixed Martial Arts and throw some punches at their Beginner Kickboxing class. Lisa, Bee, Gie and I borrowed some gloves and hit the mats with gusto tonight!
Thanks for taking us Lisa!
And thanks to Adam for being the only one of us who would pose for a picture (and for letting me steal your pop-tarts).
Tip for Beginners:
Dynamic Mixed Martial Arts offers free classes for one week if you’re a beginner visiting for the first time. The instructors are very patient and will section the class into smaller groups if there are different levels of beginners.

VFS Foley Room
(beep) … (beep) … (beep) … I went to VFS to do some voice-overs for someone’s school project tonight (another first). It’s always fun to pretend you’re a tall sexy blond chick with giant knockers and the ability to fight aliens with laser guns the size of desktop printers!
After we recorded the lines and fight scene grunts and gasps of exasperation, I stuck my head in a few doors to check out what it’s like to work in sound design. The room I had been in was a small sound room with carpeted walls, a teleprompter that played back the scenes, two microphones, a headset, director’s chair, and several bottles of water. The room next door had three types of floors (wooden, tiled and something else I can’t remember) for footstep recordings. The most interesting room though was the Foley Room that basically looks like someone’s garage before the annual Spring cleaning. The sign outside reads “Please put props away after use” and “Thank you for leaving the Foley Room in order”. But how can anyone tell if it’s in order??
Interesting Factoids About Sound Design
(that I bet you didn’t know)
- When Sound Designers record a scene where skin touches skin, they don’t usually record actual skin touching. Instead, they record the sound of rubbing something like a plastic shampoo bottle or other smooth surface.
- If you take animal noises and distort them by running them through various programs, they sound like space ships.

Real Mannequins at Metrotown Mall
I went to the mall today. Damn, I hate shopping. I don’t think I know any girl who *hates* shopping as much as I do.
Anyways, I walked past the Guess store and noticed a bunch of people staring and pointing. The mannequins were moving! So this is where actors who don’t make it end up eh? Sorry, that’s the bitterness of having to go shopping talking. They were actually very believable as mannequins. Their make-up was so fake I was actually surprised when the girl moved.

Basket Contents
I went to the store this afternoon to pick up a couple of essentials: razors, shampoo, the usual.
As I was waiting in line, the gentleman in front of me turned around and *stared* into my basket for at least six “mississippi“s. At first I felt embarrassed and looked away, then thought “what the heck am I embarrassed about?! He’s the one who’s being conspicuous.” So I stared back at him.
He looked up, smiled, took another look down at my basket, and turned back to face the register. I stared down at my basket wondering what was so interesting. I sniggered a bit “hrm, it is a very girly basket.”
Basket Contents: shampoo, conditioner, face wash, disposable razors, instant noodles, chocolate cakes (which by the way aren’t very good — I was curious), Sleepless in Seattle DVD, and Bridget Jones’ Diary DVD.
I do find it interesting to see what other people have in their baskets because it’s like a little glimpse into their lives at that particular moment. I was apparently having a very girly moment. What’s in your basket?

Warning Sign on Mount Seymour
You can find this sign along the very popular mountain biking trail that starts at the base of Mount Seymour near the North Vancouver Golf Course.
Points for creativity!
