I wrote a list of all the blog posts I wanted to write from my Wicked Road Trip and it was a really long list (in blog post time I’m only on September 21st). So, I’m jumping forward a bit to the present to tell you about my dining experience with Sarah last night before I forget what everything tasted like.

I was telling Sarah about how I wanted to try kangaroo again because I suspected that the chef was the reason it wasn’t good last time. She did her usual “Oh!” thing when she gets a bright idea and said we should go to Tukka for dinner. Tukka is one of those trendy restaurants in the West End. Yes, that’s right Vancouverites, not only does Brisbane have the same “Translink” system, skytrains that they call either “citytrains” or the “airtrain”, but they also have a trendy bohemian West End very similar to our own West End. It’s no wonder Brisbane feels like a second home to me.

The Native Platter for Two (minimum order is for 2)

You know you’re at a fancy restaurant when the portions are literally bite size. LOL Tukka takes bush tucker (traditional Australian bush food) and makes it gourmet by serving it in slivers with unusual bush-inspired sauces.

Sarah and I both ordered the native platter entree (note: in Australia, an “entree” is an appetizer and a “main” is an entree) because it comes with an assortment of native berries, home-made damper (a heavy herb bread — I think it was thyme), native dips, kangaroo, emu and crocodile. We also asked to have a bit of Tasmanian possum thrown in as well.

Before our entrees came out, everyone received complimentary appetizers: rosella crusted scallops served on top of strawberry and with a grapefruit dressing. Each plate was really well presented and the scallop was yummy but I wasn’t a big fan of the grapefruit dressing. I know this is a terrible thing to say about food at a fancy restaurant, but you know that sort of sour gaggy taste you get when you’re just about to throw up from too much tequila? That’s what the grapefruit dressing reminded me of. Terrible eh? I’m obviously not cut out to review fancy restaurants…

Sarah hesitant to try the roo

Our entrees came out on one big wooden platter — sushi boat style. Again, the food was very well presented. We started off by trying each of the berries. A couple were on the blander side, one was sour and had the worst bitter aftertaste, the big purple one started off ok like a bland grape and then quickly turned to tasting like a bad grape, and by the end we decided we didn’t like any of them.

Time for kangaroo. Sarah was hesitant about trying this because she’s not a fan of rare meats and the roo was still pink in the middle. Because the meat was so rare, its texture reminded me of sashimi but it tasted like beef jerky and was tender, flavourful and mild. This was much better than the roo I tried at Undara.

Next up: emu. I definitely preferred the roo to the emu. The emu was tougher and I think there was a little bit of tendon to it because it was difficult to cut and chew. The meat had a smokey flavour to it but neither of us could quite put our finger on how to describe the taste of the actual meat. Nothing special, but just slightly different than your usual meats.

The roo and emu also came with little roo and emu sausages. The roo sausage was so good! It was full of spices and had just the right consistency. I was a big fan. The emu sausage was good (you can’t really go wrong with sausages), but it felt more packed than the roo sausage and I didn’t like it as much.

Trying to cut the emu sliver

Crocodile time! *sigh* No croc will ever beat the croc burger I had at Daintree Village! The croc here was a little fishy again and also a little bit on the drier side. It certainly wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t nearly as good. I wish Sarah could’ve tried the burger at Daintree too.

Finally it was time for Tasmanian possum. I haven’t seen possum on any other menu in Australia, and I think I know why: it’s not good. Possum tastes like day old chicken McNuggets. It’s a bit chewy, reminds you of whatever is the opposite of fresh, and you actually feel like you’re eating road kill. Sarah said it reminded her of that scene in Shrek where he’s roasting rats. I guess neither of us are cut out to be food critics. LOL

We finished off with some lemon myrtle tea which was a lot calmer and soothing than I expected. When I think ‘lemon’ tea, I think of a tea with a little kick. This was more like a tea you’d have in front of a fireplace with some heavy cookies just before heading off to bed. A nice ending to an unusual dinner.

Mornings with Kerri-Anne came up to Brisbane this year for the annual Brisbane Exhibition (officially known as the Royal Queensland Show), that everyone calls the Ekka. Why is it called the Ekka? Nobody seems to know. There’s a story that there was once a boy who couldn’t pronounce “exhibition” and called it “ekka” instead and it just stuck. I’m not sure if there’s any merit to it though.

About the Ekka

The first Ekka was held in 1876 and was primarily an agricultural show. Today, the Ekka is still the greater Brisbane area’s biggest annual agricultural fair where farmers bring their best cattle, horses, chickens, sheep, and everything else you can find on a farm to compete in shows. There are also competititons for the best and largest fruit and veg, agricultural display competitions, and horticulture exhibitions. The whole thing takes place over a week and to describe everything that goes on there would take forever and a half.

Have you ever heard of a holiday based on a fair? I hadn’t. But, Brisbanites actually have a day off for Ekka!

Brisbane Ekka 2009 with the chair lift in the background

The Ekka is massive. The area it takes up spans across a few streets in Brisbane and it’s so big that there’s a train station dedicated to it, and a chair lift that takes you from one end to the other. This was the last year the chair lift would be operating so Sarah and I had planned to go on it, but it was something like $7 one-way or $9.50 return.

There are essentially two sides to the Ekka. The first has all of your agricultural stuff with the shows, the farm sheds where the farmers live with their animals (no joke — they sometimes sleep with them), petting zoo, animal displays, and exhibition halls for random things like Chinese imports, science fairs, etc. The other side is just like a themepark with all your rides and games. Sort of in the middle, you have your police station with a dedicated area for lost children (it’s very common) and the place where you get your showbags.

What’s a showbag you ask? It’s like a goody-bag that you purchase to say “Hey, yeah I went to the Ekka too! See? Here’s my showbag.” I had thought there were just a couple of showbags you could purchase from a stand at the Ekka. I had heard about the Bertie Beetle showbag through Twitter and assumed all the showbags were chocolate and candy filled. Boy, was I wrong.

Ekka Showbag Warehouse

Sarah and I walked to the building where they were selling showbags and I expected to see a single stand where people would buy their chocolate goody-bags. It was an entire WAREHOUSE!! I was flabberghasted. There were rows upon rows of stalls filled with hundreds of different showbags ranging from $1 to $50+. There were showbags for chocolate, showbags for perfume, showbags for men’s porno mags, showbags for everything imaginable! There were David Hasselhoff themed showbags!!! “Man alive” I thought, “parents could end up spending a fortune in this place!” And I’m sure some parents did because I saw kids leaving with more showbags than they could carry!

Everyone knows that the showbags can be a bit of a rip-off. Most of them are full of novelty things like fake nude butts or wigs and kids jewelry. But, after walking around in there for fifteen minutes, I started seriously considering buying a magazine showbag for $20. I found myself looking at these different sets of showbags and comparing which one had a nicer purse and which coupons and samples I would use even though I didn’t need a purse and I don’t normally use any of those products. If Sarah hadn’t reminded me then about how much of a rip-off these bags are, I probably would’ve ended up spending a bill on random junk I didn’t need. In the end, I walked away with my $1.50 Bertie Beetle showbag (three little chocolates, two lollipops, and a few temporary tattoos) quite happy to have taken part in the showbag tradition without having spent an arm and a leg.

Mornings with Kerri-Anne at the Ekka

When I first found out that I would be on Mornings with Kerri-Anne at the Ekka, I asked the producers if I could milk a cow or shear a sheep. Unfortunately, there’s no public cow milking or sheap sheering at the Ekka because pretty much all of the animals there are the best in the state and there for show. The farmers aren’t about to let you milk their best cow or take a chance letting you shear their best sheep.

I was originally scheduled for a segment with puppies at 10:30am. “What am I going to do with puppies!?” I thought. The night before though, I got a message saying the time would be changed to 9:30am so the segment would be changed too. Then the morning of, while I was getting ready for a 9:30am segment, I got a message saying the segment was pushed another hour early. I woke Sarah up early and scrambled to get ready.

Cabcharges

You know what’s great about being on an Australian television show? Cabcharges! All shows should have this. I remember the sting of having to pay for $9 or $12 parking everytime I went to film or record a segment in Vancouver. When I was talking to Kelley (producer for the show) on the phone, she asked how I would be getting to the Ekka. I told her I would be taking transit and she said “ah, we can do better than that!” She sent me a couple of cabcharge cards to get to and from the Ekka and it was grand. This was the first time I’d taken a taxi in Australia and it was really nice not to have to think about whether Translink’s GoCard machines would be working (they still haven’t refunded the $11 they overcharged me over a week ago). Thanks Kelley!

As we were waiting for the taxi, Sarah and I were talking about the show and this was when she realized that we were going to meet Kerri-Anne Kennerley in person. LOL I still snicker a bit thinking about her reaction. I didn’t know she was a fan, and she had thought we were doing a double-ender where I’d be in Brisbane and Kerri-Anne would be in Sydney. She told her mom. Hee hee

Channel Nine Studios Coffee Bar and Worker Bees

We got there with time to spare and I was in desperate need of a coffee. Thankfully, the Channel Nine studio at the Ekka had it’s own coffee bar and barista! As we walked to the restaurant where the segment would be filmed, I sipped on my nice hot latte. Yum.

The new segment I’d be on was going to be a taste test where the General Manager for Jamaica Blue would be making a steak sandwich. A taste testing segment isn’t exactly ideal for an interview. Kerri-Anne told me to try the sandwich right after introducing me so when she asked me a question, my mouth was still full! Yeah, I’m sure that looked great…

After the segment was over, Sarah and I spent the rest of the morning and afternoon seeing everything at the Ekka. We even caught part of a miniature-horse show. I think the highlight of the day was the petting zoo where we got to feed all sorts of farm animals and play with little chicks and lambs.

Tips for Travellers at the Ekka

I was originally going to suggest that you go on the last day of Ekka because they said on the news that the showbags and rides would be discounted on the last day. But, a friend who did go on the last day this year said that no such thing happened. So, my new tip is to go on whatever day you want and don’t feel bad if they say you should’ve gone on the last day for a discount.

Wear closed-toe shoes that you can walk around in comfortably for hours. You’re going to do a LOT of walking and you won’t want to be wearing open-toe shoes at the petting zoo.

Don’t spend more than five minutes in any particular section of the showbag warehouse. If you didn’t really want it in the first five minutes, you’ll probably feel like you’ve wasted money after buying it.

Plan to spend the entire day at the Ekka because it takes several hours to get through everything, and they also have evening concerts (different each day).

Queenslander traditions for the Ekka: eat a dagwood dog (also known as a “pluto pup” or corn dog), buy a showbag (the cheapest one is $1), eat a strawberry ice cream.

A day at the Ekka will cost you at least $34: $23 entry (or $17 if you have a student card) + $5 for a dagwood dog + $5 for a strawberry ice-cream + $1 for the cheapest showbag. Rides cost a minimum $7 each and most small snack items are around $5. A cup of animal feed at the petting zoo is $2 and it doesn’t last very long.

If you’re hungry at the Ekka and you don’t have enough money to buy snacks, visit the marketplace where they sell groceries. Most booths will have samples that will tie you over for another hour or so.

Bring a bottle of water with you. You’ll get thirsty walking around in the sun all day. Like most fairs, the food and drinks are more expensive than if you were to buy them at the grocery store. I’m all for buying a dagwood dog at the fair even if it costs $5 because it’s part of the experience, but a bottle of water is the same wherever you get it so bring one with you and save yourself $3+.

One of the things I definitely wanted to do while in Mooloolaba, was visit Underwater World. According to my Lonely Planet Queensland guidebook, it’s supposed to be “the largest tropical oceanarium in the southern hemisphere” and I remembered that their website looked really good (though looking back on it now, I can’t find that cool interactive map I thought they had).

Both Sarah and I also wanted to visit the underwater shark tunnel at Underwater World that Hailey featured in her Best Job in the World application video. The tunnel was definitely the coolest part of the place. The rest… hmm.

The Seals Behaving Badly show and Otter Show were really entertaining. I was WOW-ed at how well the seals were trained and couldn’t figure out how they did it, short of actually teaching them English! But… it’s actually because they were so well trained that I’m not sure I feel comfortable recommending a visit to Underwater World. It doesn’t seem right to have trained an animal to repeat the same actions over and over again with at least two shows per day. I tried to justify my visit by finding out about what sort of conservation work they do. The only proof of their conservation work was in the form of a small empty theatre with posters about turtle conservation, and two sad looking turtles in a tank with a sign that said they had been saved from the sea.

I guess if you wanted to visit Sea World and couldn’t afford it (it’s $69.95 for an adult ticket), Underwater World would be a good alternative ($30 adult, $24 student, $20 child).* There were a lot of families there with small children. But, if you’re looking for a more educational aquarium experience, it’s no Vancouver Aquarium (which by the way, is awesome — both highly educational AND entertaining).

Also, if you’re visiting Underwater World as a cheaper alternative on the coast, be aware that apart from the shows listed on the Feature Times flyer they give you at the entrance, everything costs extra. I don’t know why I was such an amateur tourist on this trip, but I was totally suckered into paying for a seal kiss!

After the Seals Behaving Badly show, the host said that they were going to sell a limited ten tickets to get your picture taken with a seal kissing you on the cheek. I literally RAN down the steps to buy a ticket thinking “it’s only $10! A seal kiss photo is definitely worth that!” I was the first in line to hand in my $10. After everyone cleared the room and it was just us ten suckers left, we went one by one to take our pictures. We weren’t allowed to take pictures with our own cameras because it turns out the $10 doesn’t actually include a photo print — that costs another ~$14. The girl who took the picture though said that it was a really good photo. Lies! We also didn’t get to see the pictures until we got to the gift shop (which is where they tell you about that extra ~$14 cost). But, the real kicker for me was the fact that there weren’t just ten limited tickets. There was a guy who came in while we were taking photos and asked if he could join. He got a ticket too. Boo-urns.

All in all, I think the shows and shark tank at Underwater World are worth the student entry fee ($24). But, I say this with hesitation because I’m not an expert about sea animals and what effects extensive human training can have on them. In other words, though it was a good deal I feel a little guilty for having gone.

Tips for Travellers to Mooloolaba and Underwater World

It’s cheaper to travel to Mooloolaba by public transport (Translink) than to go by Greyhound or other private bus services. The maximum you can get charged on Translink (one-way adult fare) is $18.80 or $12.22 if you have a Go Card. When I checked the Greyhound schedule, they were having a sale and a one-way ticket was $18 (normally nearly $30). Also, while there are several public trains and buses each day going that way, Greyhound only had one bus each day. To get to Mooloolaba from Brisbane, take the Nambour Line or North Coast Line train to Landsborough Railway Station and then hop on Maroochydore Bus 615. Mooloolaba Beach Backpackers is one of the stops on the bus route (about four or five blocks from the beach).

Don’t pay for internet! When I was staying at the hostel, I noticed serveral people paying for wireless internet in the reception area. Suckers! Right across the street, there was a McDonald’s (Australians call it “Mackers”) with free wi-fi and four available power outlets (Australians call them “power points”).

Please don’t be a sucker like me and pay for a seal kiss (unless of course you’re ok with paying $24 for a picture).

A visit to Underwater World will only take an afternoon at most (it closes at 4:30pm most days) so feel free to make plans for the evening.

There’s not actually enough time between shows to get from one Feature show to the other due to the weird layout of the place, so if there’s something you really want to watch you’ll either want to skip the show before it, or leave it a little earlier. The seals and otter shows are definitely the best. You won’t miss much if you skip out on the shark or stingray shows. The Shark Guided Tour is just a guy going through the shark tunnel with you and pointing out what you’re looking at (you can just read the labels for that). The Stingray Reef Talk and Feed show I caught lasted less than 15 minutes and for some reason the stingrays weren’t hungry. Maybe you’ll have better luck with that one.

You’re not restricted to the food at the aquarium cafe. Because you get stamped on the arm when you enter, you can leave at anytime for lunch and come back without a problem. I would suggest going a little further than the Wharf though if you’re looking for cheap eats. Unless you’re eating at a proper restaurant like Hogs Breath, you’re likely to be disappointed at what you get at the Wharf.

There’s no such thing as a bad photo of Mooloolaba beach

When Sarah and I were on our way to Mooloolaba (pronounced “meh-loo-leh-bah” in Australia), I realized that I had forgotten to bring the address of the place we were staying. I had it in an e-mail, but since I didn’t have my wonderful new internet stick yet, I couldn’t check it. What I did have though, was a map that my co-worker Sara (pronounced “Sah-ra”) had printed out for me which had an ‘X’ marking the spot of the building and a cartoon whale drawn in the water. Sarah and I figured we’d just get there and find an internet cafe where I could check my e-mail for the address.

When my boss told me he had an apartment in Mooloolaba, in my head I pictured a normal apartment like the kind you or I would live in. It probably should’ve rung a bell in my head when Sara told me there would be a cleaning service but I pictured a cute old couple who happened to live in my fictional apartment building that offered cleaning services to the other residents when they were away.

Sarah and I drove up to roughly where ‘X’ marked the spot, and she said something like “no way, does your boss have a place at the Mantra?” I couldn’t remember what the building was called. Apparently a place at the Mantra is a big deal. LOL We decided we’d walk in and check it out.

We got to the reception table and I asked if I had any room booked under my name. When the girl opened a drawer after checking her computer, I thought “oh my gosh! We DO have a room at the Mantra!” Sarah and I both looked at each other and grinned. And then my thoughts were “what the hell?? This isn’t an apartment! This is HOTEL! And a fancy one at that!” My fictional little apartment block with the cute old couple was shattered but replaced by a much nicer beachfront hotel suite. “Yeah, I can live with that” I thought.

We had arrived in the afternoon after having lunch at Aussie World just off the highway. This was actually my first time on an Australian beach so Sarah and I went trigger happy with the camera.

In Vancouver, the sand on the beaches feels like little itty bitty rocks or rougher hour glass sand. In Mooloolaba, the sand feels like baking flour! I felt like a guilty kid who had just taken a hundred bags of flour from the kitchen and opened them all just to play in it.

Sarah had to leave the next day after we went to Underwater World (which I’ll elaborate on in another post), but I stayed at the Mantra for another night and then at a hostel for another night after that (the Mantra suite was only available for two nights). I spent my last day in Mooloolaba soaking up sun on the beach and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

It’s been said that everyone in the world is connected within six degrees of separation. In Brisbane, it’s more like two. — me.

You know how “social media evangelists” and die-hard twits are always telling people they should be using Twitter because it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread? I don’t always agree with their stats (they usually say something about how there are x million number of users etc. when really only a small fraction of those accounts are in use) nor do I think Twitter is for everyone.

When I tell people I’m a twit, they usually ask what Twitter is and whether I think it’s worth it for them to join. Here are my answers and my Twitter story:

Twitter

Twitter (in the dictionary according to Anny): another medium on the internet that allows people (aka twits, twitterers, tweeps) to communicate with each other using short blurbs of 140 characters or less, known as “tweets”* (singular: “tweet”).

*Tweets are similar to Facebook status updates. However, twits seem to have become increasingly critical of Twitter users who tweet about themselves and their food consumption rather than “hot topics” or cool links.

Do I think it’s worth it for you to join Twitter? Well, that depends. I like to compare Twitter to a telephone. If you’re going to use it on a regular basis and you like communicating with others on it, then it’s a great idea. If you plan on joining simply because you heard it’s the thing to do (*cough* *cough* Sheep! *cough*) and you don’t really like the idea of having all your thoughts out there for the world to criticize, or you don’t plan on using it very often, then joining Twitter is a waste of your time.

Personally, I love Twitter and it loves me right back. <3

My Twitter Story (Alternative title: It’s Two Degrees in Brisbane)

The story begins with a single tweet by @612brisbane about the top condiments Australians like to put on their breakfast toast. 612 ABC Brisbane is a radio station based in Brisbane, Queensland Australia and they do a lot of listener surveys about all sorts of random things. Because ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) is a national publicly funded broadcaster, they can’t mention brand names like Vegemite (which was of course, one of the favourite Australian toast condiments). The tweet described Vegemite as a brown yeast-based spread and it sounded pretty gross to me. I hadn’t discovered Vegemite yet and didn’t know what they were talking about so tweeted back asking what it was. Spencer from the Breakfast show DM’ed me back with the answer. (Note for non-twits: a DM is a “Direct Message” which is only visible to the person you’re messaging)

After the Top 50 candidates for the Best Job in the World were announced, 612 ABC Brisbane was the FIRST media outlet to contact me for an interview. I was impressed. The local Vancouver-based radio and television stations (save CBC) were about 20 minutes behind and they were half a world closer!

Spencer in studio at 612 ABC Brisbane

I kept in contact with Spencer through Twitter, and when I came to Brisbane I asked if I could tour the radio station. Not only did he say yes, but he also invited me down for an interview.

Plain and simple: Spencer is Awesome (or as they say in Australia “Owe-some”)! He knew I was looking for a job so while we were on the air, he asked his listeners to call in if they could offer me any work. The first caller in was Dr. Andrew Laming MP from Cleveland (it’s about an hour South of Central Brisbane) who said he’d like to hire me to do some work as an Events Assistant. How perfect is that? I’ve been working in his office for over a month now and it’s been absolutely fabulous. The people at the office: Matt, Sara, Marty, Louise and of course Andrew are all uber-great and I really couldn’t have asked for a better outcome.

Majella in the control room at 612 ABC Brisbane

But there’s more! A few days later, Spencer and Majella (his Producer) called for me to come in for a follow-up interview. Of course I jumped at the chance! Spencer knew I was also looking for accommodation, so he was going to ask his listeners if they could offer me a place to stay (how nice is that eh?). Before we went on air though, we were chatting in the control room where a girl named Natalie was filling in for someone who was on holiday. When Natalie heard I was looking for a place to stay, she offered me a room! I thought “holy guacamole are Brisbanites ever nice!”

In the end, I didn’t end up staying with Natalie because her home is very far from Cleveland. She’s such a sweetheart though and put out a message to her friends asking if anyone had a spare room. One of her friends happens to be Sarah Moran who was the media guru who travelled the world with Hailey Turner from the Best Job in the World campaign. Sarah happened to also be friends with James Hill from the campaign, who I had met just a couple of weeks before this series of events. Within about the 10 minutes after Natalie put out her message, Sarah responded, we talked on the phone for a couple of minutes (about the same amount of time I had spent with Natalie in the studio) and she said she’d pick me up from the hostel the next morning! I couldn’t believe my luck!

Sarah and Simon at the Powerhouse Theatre

The next day, Sarah picked me up, we dropped off my gear at her place and had tea, went to visit the markets, made a trip to see her sister, watched a comedy show at Powerhouse with her boyfriend, and ate dinner at Sitar’s. She had a spare room at her place for one week and then was going to go to New Zealand for a family ski trip the next week. Knowing that she would only have a spare bed during those two weeks, she phoned around to see if anyone else had a place for me. Her friend Dan happened to have just bought an apartment across the street and was in the area when she phoned. We met up with him, and guess where I’m staying now? LOL I’m renting Dan’s spare room until the end of August.

Now there was a week long gap between Sarah’s return from New Zealand and Dan’s official move-in date where I didn’t have a place to stay. I think I must be one of the luckiest people on earth. My boss (Andrew) had offered to lend me his “apartment” in Mooloolaba on any of the dates in August where there wasn’t already someone staying there. A few of the dates listed were during that week where I would’ve been homeless. So, on the Sunday after Sarah returned, my co-worker Sara let me stay in her spare room. On Monday, Sarah and I left for Mooloolaba and while she had to come back early on Tuesday, I stayed until Thursday morning. Dan’s apartment wouldn’t be ready until Friday afternoon so there was just one night I had to find a bed for: Thursday.

Kelley and me at the Ekka

And the chain of events continues! I would’ve just stayed in the hostel at Mooloolaba for another night, but I had to be back in Brisbane for Friday. Why? Well, Spencer being as fabulous as he is (not only does he do his research for all his interviews — even little ones like me! — but he can edit segments in seconds WHILE carrying on a conversation with you!) has a lot of listeners. A few of those listeners happened to be producers for Mornings with Kerri-Anne (including Kelley Shepherd). Mornings with Kerri-Anne is based in the Australian state of New South Wales, but they were going to be travelling to Queensland for one day (Friday) to film at the Ekka (Brisbane’s annual fair). Because of the interview on Spencer’s show, they invited me to be on Mornings with Kerri-Anne! Very exciting!

So where did I stay on Thursday night? Well, since Sarah and I were going to go to the Ekka together, I crashed on her couch for the night and we left together in the morning. At first she thought that the segment was going to be filmed with Kerri-Anne Kennerley in NSW and me in Brisbane. When she found out that morning that we were going to be meeting Kerri-Anne in person, she just about flipped! LOL She’s a big fan.

So to sum up the story: One tweet turned into a radio interview with the best in the radio biz, that turned into a job, several places to stay, heaps of new friends, and a segment on a huge television show! This is why I love Twitter and Twitter has obviously loved me right back.

A HUGE GIGANTUAN THANK YOU goes out to Spencer Howson for being a twit.
